Cobblers Cove has announced three nights of live opera and entertainment on the beach with soprano and satirical cabaret star Melinda Hughes.
As a classically trained opera singer, Melinda has sung many lead operatic roles from Aida and Tosca to Madame Butterfly, working in more than 40 countries. As a satirical cabaret performer and Weimar cabaret specialist she has performed at the Metropolitan Room New York, the Hay Literary Festival, Cadogan Hall, the Edinburgh Fringe and Holders Festival in Barbados.
Described as “scandalous and timely” by Vanity Fair and a “brilliant cabaret goddess, a satirist of high order” by New York Social Diary, Hughes has enjoyed rave reviews from the The Times in London and been a regular guest on BBC radio.
For Cobblers Cove, Hughes is performing three dates together with her accompanist Jeremy Limb. Residents and non-residents of the hotel are invited to reserve a table on one or all of the nights:
- 15th of November, pre-dinner satirical performance in the restaurant
- 17th of November, opera and barbecue on the beach
- 19th of November, opera and supper in the gardens
Audiences can expect arias from opera, musical theatre favourites and satirical cabaret with songs covering everything from Donald Trump’s tweets to Brexit, global warming, selfies, opera divas and London taxi drivers. All satirical songs are co-written by Hughes and Limb.
The owner of Cobblers Cove, Hugh Godsal, said: “Melinda Hughes is one of the most engaging and talented performers I have ever seen and her musical and writing partnership with Jeremy Limb is electric. We’re thrilled to welcome them both to Cobblers Cove, where live opera, theatre and entertainment will always have an audience.”
