Barbados is a haven for gardening enthusiasts and there are a number of beautiful tropical gardens to explore on the island. Not surprisingly there is a thriving Horticultural Society whose members can sometimes be persuaded to open their gardens for private tours.
Hunte’s Gardens on the Castle Grant estate is one of them, created by leading horticulturalist Anthony Hunte and widely regarded as the most fascinating garden on the island, if not in the Caribbean.
Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Orchid World, Welchman Hall Gully and Flower Forest all include vibrant Caribbean specimens and spectacular blooms year-round.
The cost of a taxi for a half day tour with a driver starts from US$130, excluding admission to the gardens.
The gardens at Cobblers Cove are equally as beautiful, if on a smaller scale. Tours of the gardens happen each week, please speak to the Front Desk to register interest.
